MWC G10 - Remake of the 1982 to 1999 Series Watch in Black PVD Steel with 12/24 NATO dial Pattern, Plexiglass Crystal and Battery Hatch
SKU Code: G10PL/1224PV
This MWC model is an exact remake of the G10 PVD Stealth with a 12/24 hour dial which we made between 1982 and 1999 for the US and Canadian markets, it is very similar in many ways to the current models except that it has a more compact case, visually the watch is indistinguishable from the originals one of which can be seen in the final image. We have however made significant improvements, for example, this watch has a 60-month battery life whereas the originals back in the 1980s only ran for around 18 months The watch still retains its original dimensions to maintain historical accuracy.
The watch uses Super Luminova for improved nighttime visibility although it retains the encircled T rather than an encircled L for historical reasons. Super Luminova operates like a light battery, after sufficient activation by sunlight or artificial light, the pigment glows in the dark until the luminosity gradually diminishes although larger markings are often visible for the whole night, if needed its very easy to recharge the luminosity simply by exposing the watch to bright light for a few minutes. This activation and subsequent light emission process can be repeated again and again, and the material does not suffer aging which was an issue with the old radioactive pigments which declined dramatically after around 10 years. The other advantage is that Super Luminova pigments are 100% free of radioactivity, the original watches we made in the 80s used tritium paint hence the encircled T on the dial.
The special covert matt black non-reflective PVD finish used for this watch is often specified in military contracts for many special forces units as well as by anti-terrorist units and for various covert operations. In the PVD process, the steel is not black all the way through because the color is created by a special chemical PVD plating process which is vastly superior to the painted finish used on some lower-quality watches which can easily fade or rub off. This PVD process means that the color of the steel is altered at a molecular level, therefore it will not deteriorate even during heavy usage although it can be destroyed if the case is badly damaged by a piece of metal being gouged out or if the case is worn down by really heavy abrasion against rocks or something similar.
Because we have made these watches for over 40 years they are a very tried and tested model and large numbers of military personnel who were deployed in the Middle East and other locations have evaluated these models extensively with very favorable reports concerning long-term reliability and durability.
Whilst this model is indistinguishable from the original watches we made between 1982 and 1999 we have carried a few detail improvements which means that the watch is technically significantly superior to the original watches.
The back of the case bears a unique serial number and the watch is supplied with a black 18mm military webbing strap and is in a tin which carries the original 1974 pattern MWC logo which has not been used for well over 20 years.
