  • Upon receipt of items returned for refund we will refund less the cost of outbound postage, although in the event that a watch was delivered which was defective all the incorrect item was sent we would of course cover the outbound shipping cost.

Surplus Watches or Seconds

Please note that this specific section only applies to the watches that are sold as defective or seconds. When watches are specifically listed as needing attention or are sold as seconds (in the surplus section) we would normally carry out an inspection visually and would also tend to rely on information provided by the auction or clearance sale where the item was sold, they often provide some information as to whether the watch has an issue or is simply being cleared as surplus stock or production over runs etc. We do our best to give an accurate description of the outward condition of the watch but other than winding the watch in the case of a mechanical or making a general visual inspection in the case of a quartz model (assuming that it does not require a replacement battery) or carrying out a visual inspection which includes the photographs used in the listings we cannot provide further information or carry out an inspection in the workshop on behalf of a buyer. This is for the simple reason that if we were to do so we may as well repair the watches ourselves and sell them at a higher price. The defective watches are sold on the basis that the buyer has either horological skills themselves or access to a watchmaker to carry out whatever is needed..

These watches are always disposed of at low-cost because we find that one of the problems is pressure of time for our service staff, in many cases, they have given them a quick check over and nothing is immediately apparent though we have to assume that there is either no real fault with the watch or something will reveal itself over time in which case it’s normally a simple case of a service, repair or battery exchange depending on the exact model.
