MWC G10 100m GTLS 12/24 Titanium Model Military Watch - Needs Second Hand Resetting
This watch is a T/G10SL/1224 below is a full description of this particular watch and the issues which it has (or is reported to have because in many cases the watches do not have significant issues, below that is the full information relating to this model from the factory website which gives full details of all of the dimensions, specification and other information relating to the watch.
We buy these watches from various defence auctions and other disposal sales and it's frequently the case that we find that there is actually nothing wrong with the watch but it has to be assumed it will have some form of fault though in most cases it's very minor or as described below. These watches are disposed of at low-cost because we find that one of the problems is pressure of time for our service staff in the UK and elsewhere and in most cases they have given them a quick check over and nothing is immediately apparent though we have to assume that there is either no real fault with the watch or something will reveal itself over time in which case it’s normally a simple case of a service, repair or battery exchange depending on the exact model
Condition: Very Clean
Fault: It needs the second hand resetting - The Capacitor might need a recharge too as its been at our packing center for a while.
This is the latest MWC self luminous G10 model from their Combat Elite series the watch has titanium case with 100m (330ft) Water Resistance, screw down crown, screw caseback and uses Tritium GTLS light sources on the hands and markers plus the digits and triangle are also printed with Luminova for maximum nighttime visibility. The MWC Hybrid range use a special rechargeable Lithium–Titanate power cell, this sophisticated hybrid movement combines the characteristics of an automatic watch because it is charged by wrist movement with quartz accuracy. The Lithium–Titanate rechargeable cell is vastly superior to a normal watch battery where new batteries are often needed at regular intervals. When fully charged the watch has a 6 month power reserve so even if you only wear it for a few weeks a year it will then keep running for 6 months as opposed to around 36 hours with a standard mechanical automatic watch. You will also have plenty of warning when the power reserve is low because the second hand will start moving at two-second intervals instead of the normal one-second intervals, the watch will run down in approximately 12 hours once this happens unless it is worn (or put on a watch winder) to get the Lithium–Titanate cell charged up again. The watch also has a hacking feature for synchronization or to enable you to stop the watch running and conserve power if it won't be used for an extended period.
With such a sophisticated movement the MWC G10 SL Hybrid is currently by far the highest specification G10 military watch available from any manufacturer and is among the two most sophisticated models made by MWC the other being the solar powered titanium model which they manufacture model: T/G10/SOL/L. Essentially this model combines the best of new and traditional watchmaking technology. It retains all the popular features from the conventional steel G10 models but has a titanium case, hybrid ultra low maintenance movement plus the benefit of the cutting edge self luminous GTLS tritium vials for improved night performance.
The actual specification of this watch was dictated by American Military Specification Number: US MIL-W-46374F and this model is the 12/24 hour North American market version. The self luminous system makes the watch very easy to read at night and it has a very distinctive high visibility dial. The, hour markers and the hour and minute hands each have a brightly glowing vial of Tritium gas. Whilst the vials contain radioactive gas even when they are all taken together they contain less than the personal limit of 25 millicuries. (see U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations 10 CFR 30.15).Military watches of this type are the easiest in the world to read in low light or total darkness thanks to a self-activated light source which is 100 times brighter than traditional light sources such as paint. The light-emitting tubes require no battery power or any other form of charging, and never need servicing or maintenance. The life expectancy of the light sources is at least 10 years after which they would start to fade. To compare Tritium GTLS tubes and Super-LumiNova click here
MWC designed these watches specifically for a government contract when it was pointed out they would not be used continuously and for this reason the ability to be kept in storage and issued when required whilst still remain accurate and ready for use when needed was a vital consideration. Clearly this makes sense because if the watches are not being used all the time the last thing a government department or military unit would want is to remove them from the stores only to find that the batteries are flat! These watches solve that problem 100% because there are no batteries to worry about and there are therefore no circumstances where they could not be utilized at very short notice. The standard MWC G10 is one of the most tried and tested models and in its earlier variants has been in service for almost 30 years, this model shares a similar design to the steel models but the titanium case means this watch is the most high quality G10 model available anywhere in the world. The G10 Combat Elite range are supplied with a heavyweight NATO webbing strap. The reverse of the case carries various contract markings.
USER TIP: Wear the watch daily for at least 8 hours a day. As a guide if the watch is worn for 12 hours a day, about 36 hours (one and a half days) of power reserve will be newly accumulated every day. If the watch is worn for 12 hours a day over a week, for example, about 10 additional days of power reserve is accumulated so with regular use the amount of charge will increasingly build up until it reaches the full six months reserve.
