The MWC Kampfschwimmer (Military Diver) models are part of MWC's latest heavy-duty range of dive watches. With a significantly more robust case and enhanced crown protection compared to most other military dive watches, these models also feature an impact-resistant sapphire crystal and a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel. They are designed with a wider 24mm strap (as opposed to the typical 20mm on most military dive watches) and a thicker bezel, making it easier to grip—a feature specified in a procurement contract for use by police and military divers, as well as in inflatables operating in cold and extreme environments.

This particular model, introduced in January 2019, boasts a European NATO pattern dial and is finished in brushed stainless steel with a sapphire crystal that offers both impact and scratch resistance. It is powered by a high-quality 24-jewel automatic movement with a hacking function for precise synchronization and has a 41-hour power reserve.

Why Choose Sapphire Crystal?

Many customers ask about the advantages of sapphire crystal over standard mineral glass. Simply put, synthetic sapphire is the superior material for watch crystals. It’s incredibly strong, shatter-resistant, and highly scratch-resistant, making it ideal for military, security personnel, police officers, and those with active outdoor lifestyles—groups that make up over 70% of our customer base.

To put things in perspective, in cases where customers experience a cracked crystal, over 90% of the time it’s on watches with mineral glass. Even though we use hardened mineral glass, it doesn't come close to matching sapphire’s durability in extreme conditions. This strength is achieved by heat-treating the sapphire after manufacturing, which removes internal stresses and enhances its resilience. Finally, two layers of anti-reflective coating are applied for clarity. Interestingly, sapphire crystal is also now used on the latest iPhone models.

While sapphire crystal does come at a premium, it’s typically found only in higher-end watches due to its exceptional durability and performance.
